Director of the Master of Public Health Program
University of North Dakota School of Medicine & Health Sciences
The University of North Dakota School of Medicine & Health Sciences is accepting applications and nominations for the position of Director of the Master of Public Health Program.
THE UNIVERSITY: With nearly 15,000 students and more than 225 areas of study, the University of North Dakota (UND) is the state’s oldest and largest University. Located in Grand Forks, North Dakota, UND helps create a vibrant college town of nearly 60,000 people on the border of North Dakota and Minnesota. Founded in 1883, six years before North Dakota statehood, UND has a rich history. The University of North Dakota has a reputation for research and scholarship in health sciences, entrepreneurship, energy and the environment, and is the state’s flagship research university. UND is also one of the top 100 doctoral research universities in the United States and is one of only 47 public universities in the nation with both accredited graduate schools of law and medicine.
THE SCHOOL: The University of North Dakota School of Medicine was founded in 1905 as a two-year school of basic science located in UND's Science Hall. In 1996, the School's name changed to the UND School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS) to reflect the diversity of educational and research activities that occur at the School, which had grown to include not only physicians-in-training, but professional programs in physical therapy, occupational therapy, medical laboratory science, physician assistant studies, athletic training/sports medicine, public health, and master and doctoral degrees in the biomedical sciences and clinical-translational science. The state-of-the-art School of Medicine and Health Sciences building, which opened in July 2016, was designed to foster collaborative learning and interprofessional education. It features a live animal vivarium, gross anatomy laboratory, eight learning communities (where students from all disciplines intermingle to foster interdisciplinary learning within the health system), and the state's largest Simulation Center.
THE PROGRAM: The MPH Program prepares students to respond to the growing demand for public health professionals who can understand the underlying causes of illness and obtain and transform data into information for decision-making. The size of health data is growing exponentially, and the skills to understand causation as it relates to relevant health care are exceptionally valued by public and private health agencies, as well as healthcare provider and payer organizations. Therefore, both MPH specializations – Population Health Analytics and Health Management & Policy – emphasize not only analytics but also real-world solutions.
