The Strahle lab at Washington University in St. Louis and Hope Center for Neurological Disorders studies the pathophysiology of hydrocephalus, brain injury and neurodevelopment after intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH)/ germinal matrix hemorrhage. We use a multidisciplinary approach including techniques involving novel imaging, animal models, cell culture and tissue analysis to study the role of iron and ependymal cilia in the pathogenesis of IVH. Please see Strahle Lab website for more info: https://www.strahlelab.com The candidate should be able to assist with developing and conducting research projects, including experiment design, data analysis and documentation of experimental results. Position Summary: Opening exists for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate and Staff Scientist to join a multidisciplinary lab team to work in the area of neonatal intraventricular hemorrhage. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible for performing intracerebroventricular injections in neonatal mice/rats. Will conduct genetic experiments and apply an assortment of molecular biology techniques to critical experiments. Coordinates with collaborators on behavioral and imaging studies. Following instructions and discussions with principal investigator, designs research protocols, including developing procedures for the collection, verification and management of data. Assists in developing and conducting research projects. Assists with grant preparation and reporting. Performs complex statistical analysis of data collected and writes interpretative reports. Verifies the correctness of the data submitted and makes recommendations based on these analyses. Analytical, reasoning and problem-solving skills. Ability to analyze and interpret statistical data and to communicate data in a clear, concise manner. Ability to be a team-player, willingness to learn, good communicator, attention to detail, and to be able to organize data to present work at weekly scheduled lab meetings. Computer literacy including the ability to use a variety of software packages to analyze data. Prepares manuscripts and submits to peer-reviewed journals. Solves practical problems relating to difficulties with equipment or test subjects. Suggests technical or procedural improvements in testing methods. Conducts literature searches related to research project.

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in neuroscience research accompanied by publication record. Required Skills: Prior experience in rodent procedures including sample preparation, brain tissue sectioning, IHC, IF, confocal microscopy and cell culture is desired. |
