Responsible for operating ultrasound equipment to make vascular and echocardiographic images to visualize internal cardiac structures, obtain measurements of cardiac valves, ventricle and left atrium and visualize blood flow. Prepares study for physicians interpretation and maintains log of procedures performed. Performs electrocardiography (EKG) and Cardiac Stress Test (Treadmill and Pharmacological) to provide data for diagnosis of cardiac abnormalities. Performs non-invasive hemodynamic monitoring (BioZ) to measure cardiac output. Ensures all hospital mandated safety precautions are followed. Ensures accurate patient billing is submitted for services provided.

The Echo Tech may be required to deliver cardiac diagnostic services to patients in all areas of the hospital (e.g. intensive care units, medical and surgical floors, emergency departments, post anesthesia care units and outpatient). The Echo Tech must be able to adapt to the particular area of assignment and must be able to perform special duties required by the assignment. Standards of performance for the area to which the individual is assigned must be maintained.

Echo Techs are expected to perform their duties and responsibilities with only minimal direct supervision and must frequently make independent decisions. Echo Techs will also perform all additional duties as assigned by the department director.

Education

Required: Graduate of accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography School

Experience

Preferred: 2 years

Certifications

Required: Registry eligible and BLS.
Preferred: RDMS or RDCS
