Identifies specific needs of the patient and anesthesia care provider in relation to anesthesia supplies needed prior, during and after surgical intervention under the direct supervision of the anesthesiologist.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintains PAR levels of anesthesia supplies; orders supplies as needed; communicates supply issues to anesthesia personnel.
Reviews the OR schedule for special equipment needs.
Sets up OR for the anesthesiologist. Calibrates monitoring devices.
Assists the anesthesiologist with preparation of anesthesia equipment for every procedure. Helps with turnover of the OR.
Assists the anesthesiologist with the insertion of IVs and arterial lines. Maintains sterility at all times. Attaches arterial lines to transducers and calibrates monitors.
May set-up other equipment such as blood warmers, hypothermia blanket, etc.
Responsible for the cleaning and routine maintenance of anesthesia equipment.
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
Checks all resuscitative equipment prior to the beginning of the first surgery of the day. Reports malfunctioning or missing equipment to the OR Charge Nurse and Biomedical personnel immediately.
Checks all equipment and agents to be used in the administration of the anesthesia to assure safe working order. Reports all malfunctioning equipment to the OR Charge Nurse and Biomedical personnel immediately.
Applies aseptic techniques in daily work assignments. Performs general cleaning of department surface areas, racks, shelves, storage cabinets and all storage areas.
Responsible for surgical data entry in the OR Surgical Par Excellence System.
Demonstrates the ability to deal with pressure to meet deadlines, to be accurate, and to handle constantly changing situations.
Demonstrates the ability to deal with a variety of people, deal with stressful situations, and handle conflict.
Monitors sterility dates on supplies.
Performs additional duties as requested.
Professional Requirements:
Adheres to dress code.

Wears identification while on duty.
Maintains confidentiality at all times.
Attends department staff meetings as required within the department.
Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work in designated time.

Coordinates efforts in meeting Joint Commission, federal, state and local regulations and standards

High School graduate or equivalent.
Certified Anesthesia Technician preferred through the National Certification Examination in Anesthesia Technology administered by the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians.
