Assistant Professor of Public Health
Hawai'i Pacific University
Job Summary:
The mission of our CEPH accredited Public Health Department at Hawai'i Pacific University (HPU) is to promote health locally, nationally, regionally, and globally through innovative educational and experiential opportunities for our students. We support our faculty in teaching excellence and scholarship, and value their contributions as community partners in public health in Hawai‘i and the Pacific region. Our priority student populations are residents of Hawai‘i and the Pacific Region, especially those representing underrepresented minority populations; non-traditional and first-generation college students; and military-affiliated students, including active duty, veterans, and dependents. To help us fulfill this mission, we are seeking a full-time, career-track Assistant Professor of Public Health. The successful candidate serves as an academic professional, delivering courses in public health to undergraduates and graduates, pursuing scholarship objectives, and providing service to and on behalf of HPU. This position is ideally for a Fall Semester 2020 start. Our undergraduate courses are taught in person, so the candidate must live on or be willing to relocate to the island of O'ahu. It is expected that the candidate is familiar with and has experience teaching a wide range of core undergraduate public health courses, including both content and methodologies of the field. Our graduate classes are taught on-line, so the candidate is expected to have experience with distance teaching. We are particularly interested in candidates who have a background in teaching graduate epidemiology and/or policy courses. This candidate may also be responsible for guiding students through their field training, whereby they gain applied practice experience by working with a local public health organization.
