Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking to hire a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Lab Technician 1 , whom will report to a Team Leader in the VUMC Diagnostic Core and Chemistry Laboratories, and will have overall diagnostic bench-work responsibilities with supporting patient testing; as well as, cross-train with disciplines of chemistry, hematology, coagulation, body fluids, esoteric, serology, and urinalysis testing essential in supporting Vanderbilt's Clinical Pathology Services. Vanderbilt's diagnostic Core laboratory employees work with highly sophisticated automated specimen processing systems and LIS, within an academic hospital setting.
The Medical Laboratory Scientist and/or Medical Laboratory Technician 1 will perform routine clinical pathology testing under occasional guidance in a team atmosphere with the authority, responsibility, and accountability for accurate performance of laboratory test methodologies utilized in the diagnosis and treatment of patients, as well as evaluation of the patient's response to treatment. The Medical Laboratory Scientist 1 applies their clinical knowledge to achieve accurate clinical test results that lead to quality patient care outcomes.
Position Qualifications:
Required:
- MLS or MLT Equivalent Certification and Medical Technologist or Technician Licensure in the state of Tennessee. Allowed 120 days to obtain State of Tennessee license. Considered 'in training' prior to license approval and 1 year of relevant work experience
Desired:
- Prior diagnostic laboratory Core benchwork with high volumes and demanding turnaround times
- Diagnostic Laboratory Quality Control evaluation, instrument maintenance, and chemistry analyzers troubleshooting
Position Shift:
- Full-Time, 2 nd Shift, Monday-Friday, 3pm-11:30pm CST, every 3rd weekends and holidays rotations
- Full-Time, 3 rd Shift, Monday-Friday 11pm-7:30am CST, every 3 rd weekends and holidays rotations
