At UCSF Health, our mission of innovative patient care, advanced technology and pioneering research is redefining what's possible for the patients we serve - a promise we share with the professionals who make up our team. In an environment that allows for continuous learning and opportunities for professional growth, UCSF Health offers the ideal atmosphere in which to best use your skills and talents. Department Description Our 180-bed UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital is a 'hospital within a hospital' with more than 150 specialists in more than 40 areas of medicine. Family Centered care is the focus of our campus. We designed the campus to invite healing and coping both inside and outside patient room settings. Our Bank of America Charitable Foundation-Center for Families serves as a resources center and a space where adult family members can attend to their needs while remaining near their child. We also offer a variety of indoor spaces such as: our meditation rooms and garden/green outdoor spaces throughout the facility that promote healing in conjunction with UCSF's world class medical care. A hospital stay can be challenging and unfamiliar experience for children and their families. Our Child Life Services Department works with children, teens and their families to ensure that each child's developmental and emotional needs are met while in the hospital. This department is composed of child life specialists, school teachers, and creative arts team. We currently have 25 child life specialists on staff across both inpatient and outpatient units. Our department is overseen by a Child Life Manager and Supervisor. In addition, our department offers a Pediatric Prepare Clinic. This clinic supports children and families to better understand surgery and medical procedures. All of our specialists are professionally certified, educated at the graduate level in child development and specialize in working with children and adolescents in medical settings. Our child life specialists also oversee programming spaces such as: Sonja and William Davidow Playroom, The Zendesk Teen Lounge and our cutting edge Multisensory Room. These areas offer a safe and stress free place where patients can participate in activities, socialize and stimulate their senses to promote well-being. Attending school is a normal part of childhood and we encourage children to continue learning while in the hospital. The Marie Watts School program offers educational support to all inpatient children and their siblings who are enrolled in transitional kindergarten through 12th grade. We are proud members of San Francisco Unified School District. We currently have 9 staff members as part of our Creative arts team. Our Creative arts team is composed of art therapists, music therapists and specially trained artists. These professionals encourage a well-rounded lifestyle including creative arts skill building as well as expression of thoughts and feelings related to hospitalization. The following spaces are facilitated by this group: Sonia and William Davidow Creative Arts Studio and Kaleidoscope Digital Creative Arts Studios. Every week, children and families come together to create music and arts though the infusion of technology in these settings. The UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Child Life Services Department is creating opportunities for hospitalized children, teens and their families to play, learn and discover every day. Come discover for yourself all that the San Francisco Bay Area has to offer and help us create magical moments for our patients and their families.
