JOB TITLE: Lab Assistant (Technical) LOCATION: Geisinger Medical Center Hospital DEPARTMENT: Laboratory Medicine - Cytology WORK SCHEDULE: Days/Evenings WORK TYPE: Part Time
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for performing various technical functions in support of the testing activities performed in Laboratory Medicine.
Works under the general supervision of the appropriate technical specialist or trainer and administrative direction of the appropriate Supervisor.
Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of the Geisinger Health System in its efforts to provide quality patient care and patient satisfaction.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: Requires effective organizational and communication skills. Must be able to use a personal computer. Must be able to maintain a high level of productivity and accuracy to achieve rapid turnaround time for testing of specimens.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or equivalent required.
Previous work in a clinical laboratory setting preferred.
Up to three months on the job to reach acceptable level of performance required.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSCIAL DEMANDS: Physical demands: Subject to exposure to infectious diseases. May handle hazardous chemicals. Possible exposure to odorous chemicals and specimens. Includes work assignments that are sedentary and/or require standing; work requires use of the hands and fingers. Must be able to pass a standardized color vision test. Protective equipment (as required by particular section): eye protection, face protection, lab coat, nonsterile medical gloves.
