Work Hours/Shift: Full Time Monday - Friday; 8a-5p
You Will Be Responsible For:
- Floats to like positions (delineated below) at other Graduate Medical Education offices when assigned.
- Greets patients warmly and in a timely manner. Requests and verifies patient demographic and insurance information in order to register all patients in a professional manner according to Medical Education Guidelines.
- Utilizing Medical Education Guidelines, makes, cancels and reschedules appointments according to patient, and physician' availability. Answers calls, using scripted opening greeting, identifying department and self. Asks the patient's name and demographic information before processing the call. Confirms appointments.
- Processes referral requests. Communicates with physicians and insurance companies to ensure that the patient is sent to the participating facility or specialist. Obtains authorizations for managed care patients. Documents all referrals in patient records. Acts as a liaison between patient, physician and managed care organization when questions or problems arise concerning a referral. Communicates effectively with clinical staff.
- Follows Medical Education Guidelines to process current patient records and respective correspondence, analyze medical record requests for accuracy and completeness and ensures authorization supports documentation to be released. Retrieves and distributes patient records in a timely manner. Maintains current log of medical records received and disclosed.
Qualifications
What You Will Need:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Medical Assistant certification/registration from one of the following:
- American Registry of Medical Assistants
- National Center for Competency Testing
- American Medical Technologists
- American Association of Medical Assistants
- National Health Career Association
- Bilingual (English & Spanish) (Preferred)
Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Practice Manager, the Office Float/Medical Assistant is responsible for providing clinical and clerical assistance, including rooming patients, assisting with exam and procedures, performing waived lab tests, administering medications, registering patients, scheduling/confirming appointments, processing managed care referrals and medical record scanning.
