Duke University Health System seeks to hire a Nursing Care Assistant II who will embrace our mission of Transforming Lives Transforming Care.
The Nursing Care Assistant II performs a variety of nonprofessional nursing duties in the direct care of patients under the direct supervision of a RN/LPN. Performs tasks within the scope of a nursing care assistant I and II as defined by the NC Board of Nursing. In addition to duties outlined in NCAI job description, the following duties may be performed: sterile dressing change for wounds over 48 hours old and wound irrigation; IV fluid assistance activities; oral/nasogastric feeding; urinary catheterization and irrigation; oxygen therapy, including room set-up and monitoring flow-rate; break up and removal of fecal impaction; oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal suctioning; tracheotomy care; ostomy care, irrigation and annual skills validation.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:
Sterile techniques and special procedures that are applicable to work performed
Procedures and techniques involved in administering routine and special treatments to patients
Principles and practices of providing nonprofessional bedside patient care
Sanitation, personal hygiene and basic health and safety precautions applicable to work in a hospital
Infection control procedures and safety precautions
Ability to withstand prolonged standing and walking. Heavy lifting and the ability to transport stretcher and wheelchair patients to various hospital locations may be required
Understand and follow oral and written instructions
Document and communicate pertinent information using computer and/or paper documentation tools
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and hospital staff
Knowledge of the organization and physical layout of the hospital
Pre-employment Physical Capacity Testing required
Licensure, Education and Certification Required:
Current Nurse Aide I Registry listing with the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services Division of Health Service Regulation
Current Nurse Aide II Registry listing with the N.C. Board of Nursing
High School Diploma or equivalent required
BLS certification must be maintained/completed by the end of new hire orientation, which typically takes place during the first week of employment.
