The MetroHealth System (MHS), a principal teaching hospital of the Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) School of Medicine, seeks a dynamic and respected leader for an academic Chairperson of the Department of Pediatrics. Located in Cleveland, Ohio, the MHS is a fully integrated provider of high-quality healthcare, inclusive of the MetroHealth Medical Center and over 25 additional inpatient and outpatient facilities throughout Cuyahoga County. As a public hospital system, MetroHealth serves a very diverse population regardless of ability to pay.
The Chair must be a compelling leader and a recognized educator and/or investigator whose passion for the educational, clinical, and research missions energize the faculty, staff, and learners in a culturally competent and culturally sensitive manner. The chair should focus the department’s efforts on a strategic vision of excellence in all missions. Recruitment, retention and mentoring of junior faculty are critically important components of the position. The chair is an enthusiastic supporter of faculty of diverse backgrounds; will act to recruit and retain faculty and staff who are from diverse backgrounds; is sensitive to racism and its effect on health; will continue to address the social determinants of health and create effective programs/services to address them. They will also be a prudent steward of the Department and MetroHealth, guiding through of the inevitable changes in the healthcare and social environment.
The MetroHealth System has established an outstanding, collaborative relationship with University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s (RBC) Hospital in Cleveland. Currently the collaboration consists of a Professional Services Agreement between MetroHealth and RBC for select sub-specialty coverage that is provided to MetroHealth patients by RBC physicians. Discussions are underway to potentially expand the relationship between our two great organizations. The new Chair of Pediatrics at MetroHealth will play a vital role in ensuring the success of this collaboration. To support the collaboration further, MetroHealth and UH RBC have discussed the possibility that the new Chair of Pediatrics at MetroHealth could have a cross-appointment at UH RBC and spend a portion of their time at UH RBC.
Qualified candidates must be Board Certified in Pediatrics and have a distinguished record of academic/clinical experience, research productivity and skill in managing clinical activities within an academic environment. The applicant must be qualified for a faculty appointment with CWRU School of Medicine and be currently at an Associate Professor or Professor rank. The successful candidate will be an experienced enthusiastic academic clinician and leader, with a strong interest in care for underserved children, population health, clinical research, and resident education. The individual will be responsible for pediatric quality on main campus and satellites, quality improvement activities, hiring of pediatric providers, annual performance review of pediatricians, and collaborating with the Service Line on budget and business aspects of the practice. Applicants should be eligible for employment in the US and for an Ohio medical license. Compensation and Tenure will be commensurate with experience and achievement.
