James Madison University Department of Health Sciences
The Department of Health Sciences at James Madison University has experienced increased interest in the B.S. in Health Sciences degree. We invite applications from individuals who would like to support this growth by teaching in one or more areas that contribute to our engaging curriculum (healthsci.jmu.edu). The department and College of Health and Behavioral Studies have a commitment to diversifying our faculty with these positions. Each of the two 10-month instructional faculty positions will be filled as a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor and is scheduled to begin on August 25, 2021. Mission Vision

The successful candidate will be expected to teach assigned undergraduate courses within the B.S. in Health Sciences curriculum. Preference will be given to those candidates with university teaching experience or background in one or more of the following areas: statistical methods for health science research, health behavior change, population health determinants, U.S. and global healthcare systems, chronic disease and disabilities, and epidemiology. The typical teaching load within the department is four 3-credit courses per semester (2 sections each of 2 courses). We are especially interested in qualified candidates who possess a commitment towards building equitable and inclusive environments. Doctoral degree (earned by the start date) in public health, health sciences, health education and promotion, or related field is required. Applicants holding CHES and/or CPH are preferred. Candidates must possess a commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service. Potential for scholarly activity should be evident. Candidates must also demonstrate an appreciation for the preparation of undergraduate students for application to further studies in professional programs (e.g., public health, physician assistant, occupational therapy, physical therapy, medicine). Candidates with experience working in diverse scholarly environments are preferred. In addition to completing an online faculty profile, candidates must post a cover letter that highlights their specific experiences in, or ability to teach, one or more of the courses listed above. A curriculum vitae and a teaching philosophy that includes a statement of how the candidate incorporates issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom are also required. Unofficial transcripts may be submitted as optional documents. The names and contact information for three references will be requested as part of the application. |
