Job Summary: The Electrophysiology Program Coordinator works under the supervision of the Chief of Cardiac Electrophysiology, and is responsible for coordinating and providing specialized treatment and care to patients with cardiac arrhythmias who are undergoing invasive and non-invasive procedures, such as catheter ablations and cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) as well as providing longitudinal care. Responsibilities include pre-procedural patient management and evaluation, procedural planning, and post-procedural care, daily rounds, and evaluation and management of CIEDs.

Responsibilities:

The Program Coordinator will assist and work collaboratively with the Section Chief to organize and harmonize all clinical and non-clinical activities of the Section with the overarching goals of improving patient care and growing the breadth and depth of the Section. These coordinating responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:

• Helping synchronize the work of all providers within the Section
• Participating actively in the development and execution of quality assurance and process improvement projects
• Collaborating with providers in other Sections within the Department to streamline clinical and non-clinical operations
• Working collaboratively with data managers to collect and analyze data for registry submission

The Electrophysiology (EP) Program Coordinator will be involved with all EP Program activities, including:

• Attends daily EP rounds and assists in education of cardiology/EP fellows (e.g., regarding EP and device management)
• Assists physicians with hospital discharge of patients, s/p ablation or device implant requiring hospital stay; ensures appropriate follow-up in accordance with established procedures
• Assists with in-hospital CIED interrogations
• Establishes and communicates post-operative follow-up as appropriate, including possible serial evaluations, including anticoagulation and antiarrhythmic drug decisions
• Participates in the monitoring of patients admitted for antiarrhythmic drug initiation
• Participates in communicating results with referring physicians
• Discusses procedures with patients and obtains operative consents
• Reviews records to ensure that all pre-op tests are completed and appropriate including blood work, CTA (and obtaining disc), TEE, etc.
• Provides peri-operative anticoagulation regimen (e.g., apixaban, rivaroxaban, dabigatran, edoxaban, warfarin, enoxaparin) and antiarrhythmic drug regimen recommendations
• Conducts post-operative follow-up with follow-up call (approx. one week post-op), anticoagulation and antiarrhythmic therapy management, and appropriate office follow-up
• Responds to patients' telephone calls (scripts, questions, etc.) for EP issues
• Reviews and communicates results of tests (e.g., Cardiac MRI, echocardiogram, ECGs, etc.)
• Arranges and follows up on mobile cardiac telemetry/event monitor/Holter monitoring with communication of results to the patient, including post-AF ablation monitoring
• Maintains AF ablation database (for evaluating success/recurrence), reviews drug loads (e.g., dofetilide, sotalol), monitors re-admission, anticoagulation requirements, arranges possible cardioversions, as appropriate
• Maintains left atrial appendage occlude (LAAO) device database, assists with LAAO registry, obtains pre-operative consent and imaging, conducts/arranges post-operative follow-up
• Participates in CIED in-office follow-ups, as well as remote CIED monitoring
• Assists in review and evaluation of new products and equipment to make recommendations for use by the department
• Contributes to, and participates in educational sessions, and assists with website development
• Potential for growth: Based on the incumbent's performance and on the growth of the EP Program in the region, there may be future opportunities for expanding the role to Regional Program coordination

Qualifications/Requirements:

Experience: 2+ years of Cardiovascular Medicine experience required. Electrophysiology experience preferred.

Education: Master's degree, required.

Licenses / Certifications:

New York State Nurse Practitioner license and current registration certified as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner OR New York State Physician Assistant degree with current registration

Other: Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Special Requirements: Extensive knowledge of physical assessment, differential diagnosis, pathophysiology, pharmacology and management of acute and chronic patient/family health problems.
