Located in the heart of historic downtown, New Haven is home to more than 100 local boutiques, national retailers, cafés, casual eateries, award-winning restaurants, and world-renowned theaters, galleries, and museums. General Purpose: The Simbonis Fellowship is a two-year term appointment from the date of hire. Anticipated start date 7/1/2021. The position is made possible by the Stanley Simbonis Fund. Selected candidate may begin work remotely but will be expected to work primarily on-site once the majority of library staff are working from the library.
The Simbonis Librarian serves the Yale School of Public Health (YSPH) and the broader Medical Campus through reference, instruction and outreach activities that support the research, teaching, clinical and service missions of Yale University. Working closely with the Research and Education Librarian for Public Health, this user-centered individual will teach students, faculty, clinicians, and researchers to leverage information and data resources, conduct evidence-based searching and synthesis, and utilize content management tools. The librarian will teach in the medical library's general instruction program and offer reference services to the general clientele of the medical center. The librarian will collaborate with the Collection Development and Scholarly Communication Librarian to support staff and patrons on questions of open access, alternative publishing models, authors’ rights, and other issues related to scholarly information. The librarian will be a member of the Academic Research and Education team, and report to the Head of that unit, while working collaboratively across the Library.
The fellowship allows the selected candidate the unique opportunity to work with several program areas, collaborate on projects, and to participate in a challenging and rewarding work environment. A flexible program will be developed to balance the candidate’s individual goals and interests with the Library’s needs. In addition, the librarian’s professional interests will be supported with a mentoring program, training, professional development opportunities, and participation on library committees. You must have your degree completed by the time you begin work
