As the Director of Research, the successful candidate will have expertise in data science, antiracist research, and various social science methodologies. In collaboration with the relevant project chairs, they will supervise original research produced by the Center in order to ensure its quality and integrity. The Director of Research will bring their research expertise to bear on building and maintaining the nation’s foremost racial data lab and shaping Center research projects. They will establish and manage an affiliated faculty and graduate student program, coordinate research and policy teams in collaboration with the Policy Office, and develop other Research Office projects and initiatives.

Under the guidance of the Center Director and Executive Director, and in collaboration with a senior faculty chair, they will:

• Envision and execute the Research Office’s strategic plan;
• Design, build, staff, and execute the Research Office’s projects in accordance with the strategic plan;
• Build working relationships with BU and non-BU collaborators;
• Solicit grant and gift funds;
• Write and review grant applications and reports;
• Ensure compliance with grant obligations.

The Director of Research will also serve as a Principal Investigator on grants and supervise graduate students in their Center-related research. This is a term and not tenure-track position. Initial appointment will be for a renewable three-year term.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in a relevant Social Science or Data Science discipline and experience designing, supervising, and executing complex research projects. Applicants will be well versed in various social science and data science research methodologies, including quantitative and qualitative methods, and will have an interest in Racial Data Science specifically. They will have substantial experience seeking, applying for, and managing grants and, possibly, gift funds. They will be able to effectively supervise multiple direct reports and to work in a collaborative, interdisciplinary setting. They will have experience with and a demonstrated commitment to antiracism.
