Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Laboratory Assistant.
In this role, the successful candidate under supervision of the Embryology Supervisor and Lab Director, candidate will manage specific administrative tasks as well as provide patient support services. These tasks require knowledge and understanding of embryology onsite training will be provided to the chosen candidate.
Fertility Care is an intricate field of medicine involving tissue, gametes and embryos often ultimately affecting several individuals (patient, partner, resulting children) directly. The candidate will interact directly with patients to provide updates specifically related to their individual case and answer questions. The candidate will also be expected to develop and implement systems for managing lab supplies including ordering, monitoring inventory and sourcing alternative products.
Job Responsibilities:
- Publishes Embryology Daily schedule, replies to queries regarding schedule and patient timing Develop and implement a system for monitoring and ordering of lab supplies such as culture media and consumables Assist management with staff Time keeping and schedules Call FET patients Call patients with cryo results Scheduling of cases with the Book when coverage required Review data entry at end of cycle for complete and accuracy Assist with cryo shipments when necessary Additional tasks as required to support the lab
- Quality Control- 1. Dispose of biological specimens in designated hazard containers. 2. Report malfunctions to senior personnel promptly. 3. Follow departmental procedures and instructions. 4. Perform all tests utilizing universal precautions for bloodborne pathogens and in accordance with procedures developed by the Program management. 5. Verify status of patient consent compliance related to cryo inventory procedures.
- Develop and implement a system for monitoring and ordering of lab supplies such as culture media and consumables
- Scheduling of cases with the Book when coverage required and Review data entry at end of cycle for complete and accuracy
- Assist management with staff Time keeping and schedules
- Assist with cryo shipments when necessary
- Checking Embryology lab emails with appropriate follow up action- answer calls document information in patient record.
- Call FET patients with cryo results
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Associate degree in a chemical, physical, biological or medical technology field.
Excellent written and spoken communication skills with ability to interact appropriately with patients, physicians, nursing staff and co-workers. Empathy and confidence speaking with patients is a must. Demonstrated ability to function as a team player. Time management skills and high level of organization required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree. Knowledge of the field of embryology.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
