Inpatient Pain Service Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA)
Position Summary
The Duke Inpatient Pain Service Advanced Practice Provider (APP) provides direct patient care services to patients on the inpatient pain service for all age groups (adult and pediatric) in collaboration with the attending physician, fellows other APPs and residents. The APP performs physical exams, collects and documents data, conducts diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies and professional consultations, prescribes appropriate interventions and medications, coordinates care, and provides direct patient care services. The APP contributes to excellence in patient care, research, teaching, and provides leadership to the organization.
Position Requirements
Education:
NP: Work requires completion of accredited graduate level Nurse Practitioner program.
PA: Work requires graduation from a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessor agencies.
Licensure:
NP: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina and approval to practice as an ACGNP.
PA: Licensure as a Physician Assistant in the state of North Carolina.
Certification:
NP: National Certification as an ACGNP (acute care only)
PA: National Commission on Certification of PAs (NCCPA) certification is required
Experience:
Masters and experience in medical/surgical management as an advanced practice provider for at a minimum of 1 years is preferred but not required.

This team works a combination of shifts including 8, 10 and 12 hours shifts. Work is primarily inpatient with less frequent hospital based clinic coverage (85% inpatient / 15% clinic). This is a primary daytime coverage model. This includes occasional weekend and holiday coverage. Schedule may be changed by the Center for Advanced Practice and clinical leadership to meet service-line needs.
