Atlantic Health System is seeking a Full time Nurse Educator to work in Chilton Medical Center primarily working 7pm - 7am.
Essential Job Functions:
Professional Development/Orientation: Coordinates, facilitates and evaluates orientation of new employees with orientee, preceptor, manager and/or director. Actively participates in nursing competency skills days. Develops competency-based tools as needed to support changes is policy, procedure or new equipment. Provides guidance to staff on orientation/educational needs. Works collaboratively with managers and staff in planning/implementing innovative programs. Consults on projects as requested. Adheres to ANCC/NJSNA guidelines for continuing nursing education programs involving contact hours. Plans programs based upon objectives, program evaluations and needs assessments. Evaluates programs and presentations effectiveness using relevant methods. Acts as a resource to nurses completing RN PACT requirements. Supports and encourages professional development of staff.
Health Promotion and Disease Prevention: Initiates/assists staff with health promotion and disease prevention services. Identifies educational needs of patient and families concerning alterations in health, the disease process, hospital plan of care and discharge plan. Communicates needs to unit manager for plan and implementation.
Quality: Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide age appropriate indirect care to patients. Guides and supports staff to provide age appropriate direct care to patients and families. Advocates for patients, family members and nursing personnel. Supports policy and services that advocate for patient rights and optimal environments of healthcare incorporating the fundamentals of Jean Watson's caring science. Evaluates quality improvement data and formulates evidence-based recommendations to improve care and nursing practice.
Collaboration/Communication: Participates in Shared Governance Councils, committees and task forces. Utilizes shared governance forum to provide support for enhancing education, practice and quality improvement. Acts as a resource to hospital committees by providing input regarding identified problem and practice issues, as well as developmental and problem-solving strategies. Supports preparation for Joint Commission, DOH and other regulatory agency visits. Supports implementation of policies, guidelines and recommendations of regulatory bodies. Communicates effectively with all members of health care team. Attends department meetings and updates
colleagues on relevant issues.
Research: Critically evaluates existing practice based on current research findings and integrates changes into practice. Collaborates with members of the interdisciplinary team in conducting research relevant to practice. Assesses and identifies relevant researchable clinical nursing problems with staff. Utilizes the research process
to improve patient care outcomes and enhance the environment of care.
Maintains individual professional competence: Establishes individual developmental goals and strategies incorporating feedback from self, peers and manager according to evidence-based nursing education standards. Attends educational program based on individual and organizational priorities and goals. Participates in professional activities and organizations. Participates in patient care activities needed to maintain competence.
Role Model: Assists Manager and team with interviews of new department employees. Welcomes new team members and participates in orientation and acclimation to department activities. Serves as an active member of organizational events: nurses' week, nursing certification day, employee appreciation week, Magnet designation and Atlantic Health Joint Nurse Educator council.
Valid New Jersey Nursing License required
Certified in Basic Dysthmia
National Certification required
2+ years of nurse educator preferred
5+ years clinical experience in cardiac care/step down/progressive care
