Department: Medical Records/Support Svcs FTE: 1.00 Full Time (30 - 40 hours per week) Shift: Days
Position Summary: Plan, organize and direct the provision of UNM Health Systems medical records services; establish overall departmental policies, procedures, standards and objectives; supervise all functions, including transcription, record completion, coding abstracting, research, filing, storage, retrieval and maintenance. Ensures adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. No patient care assignment.
Detailed responsibilities: * GOALS - Direct the coordination, support and development of strategic and operational plans for assigned area * SYSTEMS - Play a major role in developing the strategic direction for managing the implementation of electronic patient medical information systems, planning for future system expansion and enhancing system access and use * COORDINATION - Coordinate the activities of the department with other hospital and clinical departments and functions through a variety of standing and ad hoc committees * POLICY & PROCEDURE - Participate in the development of policies and procedures for assigned areas. Approve departmental policies, practices, and procedures consistent with professional standards, legal/regulatory requirements, and institutional goals * PROCEDURES - Identify and implement appropriate internal controls for department; provide mechanisms to monitor and enforce compliance * REPORTS - Prepare and direct the preparation of a variety of recurring and special reports and analyze departmental activities in order to ascertain the extent to which departmental goals are being met * BENEFITS - Assist employees with accessing and understanding information regarding benefit programs, costs, status and COBRA; aid employees with enrollment and/or disenrollment in benefits as appropriate * DIRECTIVES - Develop and maintain departmental manuals, procedures and training for staff * SUPERVISION - Develop efficient organizational structure, supervise employees - select, terminate, train, educate, correct deficiencies, perform appraisals, issue discipline, counsel, schedule work assignments; encourage staff teamwork and growth initiatives * BUDGET - Develop and administer the division's annual budget; monitor and approve expenditures * POLICY AND PROCEDURES - Develop, annually review, revise, update, maintain and communicate hospital policies and procedures to subordinates and serve as a liaison between employees, administration, and the medical staff * BRIEF - Inform Executive Director HIM of department activities, needs and problems
