The Director of Educational Programs and Outreach is a new position and is responsible for the administration, oversight, and leadership of all educational programs of the Cancer Support Community SF Bay Area, including development of the new state of the art support center, and outreach to the community. The Director of Educational Programs and Outreach builds and maintains relationships with participants, program professionals, speakers, and key programmatic constituents in the healthcare, medical and academic arenas; develops and manages the program budget, maintains program statistics and reports.
The Director of Educational Programs and Outreach works closely with the CEO and the Director of Clinical Programs and other staff to provide programmatic consultation as it relates to general operations, outreach, and marketing, grant writing and reporting; develops and implements plans to substantially increase the delivery and utilization of programs over the next few years, and on an as needed basis, participates in fundraising activities.
The Director of Educational Programs and Outreach is expected to keep up to date on psychosocial oncology practice and research issues, and to represent the affiliate at the annual Affiliate Leadership Conference and other professional meetings. The Director of Educational Programs and Outreach must embody the highest professional standards and demonstrate warmth and compassion as they work with participants, staff, volunteers and others in building and maintaining a sense of community.

This is a unique, exciting opportunity as Cancer Support Community has raised the funds to build a new state of the art cancer support center on a natural 6-arce parcel of land in the East Bay and the Director of Education and Outreach will have a key role in creating this new center.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership
o Provide leadership, management, and mentoring to program staff; provide guidance on best practices and strategy when needed
o Partner with the Chief Executive Officer, Director of Clinical Programs, and Cancer Support Community Board of Directors to deliver effective strategies for participants engagement
o Develop and monitor program budgets as well as pursues funding opportunities with the CEO and Development staff
o Represent CSC to the Professional Advisory Board by coordinating recruitment/retention, regular communications, and networking activities
Program Development and Administration
o Develop, refine, and implement strategies for programs with a focus on increasing services to underserved communities
o Develop and create programs and services for cancer patients and their families.
o Develop content for the program calendar which includes recruiting and managing workshop leaders and adjunct instructors, creating calendar descriptions, program flyers, etc.
o Orient and monitor workshop presenters, adjunct instructors and other CSC speakers to ensure quality, fair balance and adherence to CSC policies.
o Supervise the planning and implementation of programs and events for participants
o Analyze reports to make strategic decisions to maximize member participation; prepare and present information and progress to Cancer Support Community’s senior leadership team, the board, and partners
o Collaborate with CEO and CSC staff to identify funding opportunities
o Recruit, train, manage and evaluate assigned program staff and contract staff; facilitate staff meetings
o Oversee accurate gathering, recording and reporting of statistical and database records in accordance with CSC requirements.
o Manage in-person/virtual programs and staff at the Walnut Creek and Antioch centers
o Represent CSC SF Bay Area affiliate at the National CSC conference
Outreach
o Work in partnership with the CEO to develop and implement an outreach strategy
o Supervise the Outreach Manger
o Develop and deliver presentations to organizations, hospitals, companies, health professionals to educate the community about CSC programs and the need for psychosocial cancer programs.
o Develop strategies to increase program utilization especially in underserved communities
Professional Experience/Qualifications
Experience:
At least three - five years of substantial and progressively responsible professional experience, including at least two years of experience supervising professional staff
Demonstrated experience overseeing complex or multiple projects through to success, and
coordinating the work of staff and partners
Demonstrated success in program development, particularly in adapting programs to evolving needs and opportunities
Experience developing and evaluating program impact.
Experience developing program budgets
Skills:
Exceptional leadership skills, with a collaborative spirit and strong management skills; demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate staff, board, and potential partners
Strong strategic and implementation skills; ability to grasp the opportunities and challenges of the organization and the role

Minimum of Master’s level degree in Social Work, Public Health, Counseling, Psychology, Education or related field, from an accredited institution.
