The Associate Director of Community Development is a member of the Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) Development team and is responsible for supporting the event fundraising efforts for VUMC. This position assists in planning, coordinating, and executing fundraising events and programs with some guidance. This position also partners with our digital team to coordinate the fundraising/digital campaigns that support our fundraising events and activities. This position will work collaboratively with Medical Center leadership and community partners to ensure the best financial outcome for the events and fundraising activities. In addition to raising funds for VUMC, the goals of the Development team are to engage donors and manage scalable events that align with the mission and vision of the Medical Center.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Director of Community Development to set annual goals, develop a business plan, and implement strategy to maximize fundraising results.
- Maintain strong relationships with donors and community partners.
- Provide leadership, strategic guidance and management of assigned community development initiatives and programs for VUMC, including internal events and third-party events.
- Assist Directors of Development with supporting large fundraising events requiring all team support.
- Interact with community members, volunteers, leaders, and staff through phone inquiries, email, and meetings.
- Maintain knowledge and adherence of all VUMC Development administrative and financial policies.
- Ensure that all approved community events are compliant with VUMC Development guidelines.
- Assist with updating VUMC leaders, submitting leadership requests, and managing the master calendar.
- Work in partnership with the Corporate Relations team to identify and secure sponsorships for relevant events.
- Collaborate with the Digital and Direct Marketing team to develop digital strategies and assets associated with various events.
- Work in partnership with the Office of Engagement and Strategic Marketing for relevant relationships (e.g., involvement of the sports and entertainment industries).
- Coordinate with the Gift and Donor Services team to ensure that gifts received from events and programs are handled timely, appropriately, and accurately.
- Maintain financial data and produce reports to support volunteer and event management.
- Uphold departmental and institutional policies regarding confidential information.
- Attend events, as needed, to assist with logistics.
- Assist with logistics for public relations and stewardship activities, including check presentations, tours, and other fundraising activities.
- Review event donors and ensure that individuals with major gift capacity are identified, researched and referred to the appropriate portfolios.
- Maintain the VUMC Credo in all work.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience) (Required)
- 1 year experience (Required)
- One year of development, special event fundraising experience preferred.
- Superior organizational, verbal and written communications skills.
- Ability to articulate the priorities and accomplishments of VUMC to a wide range of audiences.
- Ability to perform in a complex environment and effectively interact with VUMC leadership, donors, board members and volunteers.
- Ability to perform and coordinate multiple projects and priorities on a regular basis with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated success in volunteer management and planning, organizing, executing, and evaluating fundraising efforts.
- Results-oriented with a proven record of growing and scaling fundraising events.
- Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to maintain professional working relationships with corporate, business and community partners.
- Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment.
- Professional attitude, appearance, the ability to exhibit enthusiasm, persuasion, and good judgment in interactions with others.
- Excellent management and organizational skills.
- Must be proficient in MS Office software product (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook.
This is a full-time position.
Some travel, evening and weekend work will be required.
Hybrid work environment with some in-person requirements.
