The role you’ll contribute:Processes specimens for pathologic diagnosis, tissue fixation, processing, preparing and staining slides for microscopic examination by the pathologist.

·Assists in training new employees and histology students/interns while providing leadership and mentoring to histotechnicians, fellow histotechnologists, and laboratory support staff to maintain optimal operations and outstanding customer service.
·May perform quality control testing, equipment maintenance, identification of problems that may affect test performance or reporting of test results and troubleshooting practices.
·Ensures the analytic accuracy, precision, and sensitivity in test methods.
·Maintains established facility and department policies and procedures.
·Performs analytical activities related to specimen processing, embedding, microtomy, routine and special histologic staining, frozen sectioning, cover slipping and handling of irreplaceable tissue, surgical and body fluid specimens.
·Participates in proficiency testing program as assigned. Ensures that proficiency testing deadlines are met and samples are analyzed in the same manner as patient samples
·May perform immunohistochemical staining and documents quality control, maintains instrumentation and supplies.
·Follows appropriate safety policies including the appropriate use of PPE, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling. Demonstrates understanding and adheres to Chemical Hygiene plan and Infection Control policies. Employee job duties may include transport of hazardous waste from the point of generation to a designated secure storage area; employee will be required to complete initial training (prior to handling hazardous waste) and refresher training to include proper handling and transport of hazardous waste, and proper selection, use and disposal of personal protective equipment.
·May prepare specimens utilize for research requests.
·Ensures special stains are performed on tissues, as needed.
·May perform special staining, maintaining solutions and documents quality control •Follows established procedures to collect and process biological specimens for analysis.
·May register, order, and accession pathology specimens into computer systems.
·Operates and maintains equipment used to embed, section, stain, and coverslip specimens.
·Adheres to safety requirements and appropriately handles and disposes chemicals.
·May assist in procedural areas with specimen collection such as Fine Needle Aspirations

·May assist with preparation of Cytology specimens.
·Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
REQUIRED:
·Associate and 5 years’ experience
·American Society for Clinical Pathology
·Histotechnologist
·Associate's degree in a related field •Five years of experience as a Histology technician/technologist in a Histology laboratory setting
·In licensure states, must hold licensure as a Histotechnologist for the department or location assignment as applicable to the state -OR –
·In non-licensure states, must hold a national certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent as a Histotechnologist unless grandfathered per state requirement.
PREFERRED:
·Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent
·Two years of experience as a Histology technician/technologist in a AdventHealth laboratory setting
·Ability to prepare tissue specimens to confirm patient diagnoses.
·Ability to perform complex histological procedures, record and analyze data, and maintain/repair instruments.
·Up-to-date knowledge of specimen handling, ranging from accession to specimen storage
·Knowledge of medical terminology
·Knowledgeable in troubleshooting and problem resolution
·Ability to support continuous laboratory service improvement to ensure timely preparations for quality diagnoses.
·Ability to maintain safety standards and comply with government regulations in laboratory practices.
·Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the health care industry
·Ability to communicate appropriately and effectively with patients and their family, hospital staff, nurses, physicians, and other health care professionals.
·Must be able to read, write and speak conversational English.
·Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
