The Centers for Violence Prevention (CVP) invite applications for one or more postdoctoral fellowships in violence prevention research. Recognizing that violence prevention is an expansive and multi-disciplinary field, we welcome outstanding investigators whose work addresses the causes, consequences, and prevention of multiple forms of interpersonal and self-directed violence in the United States. Our faculty have particular interests in firearm violence; housing and antipoverty interventions for violence prevention, including guaranteed income programs; extreme risk protection orders; political violence; criminal legal system decision-making and risk prediction; illicit firearm markets; clinician interventions to prevent violence; and community- and hospital-based violence prevention programs. Scholars utilizing quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methodological approaches are encouraged to apply.
Fellows will collaborate on existing research projects and lead studies and grant proposals of their own initiative, all with support and mentoring by core CVP faculty. Our team is actively involved in developing public policy and practice on violence and its prevention, and fellows will have the opportunity to participate in this important translational work. The content of each fellowship will reflect existing areas of strength and will be tailored to meet the goals and objectives of individual fellows. UC Davis’s robust program of courses, seminars, and other learning and teaching opportunities for postdoctoral scholars will also be available to fellows. The fellow will be employed as a postdoctoral scholar for up to two (2) years with a competitive annual salary and benefits and a $10,000 reimbursable research fund for project expenses, professional development, and travel to scientific meetings.
CVP is a multi-disciplinary program of research and policy development focused on the nature, causes, consequences, and prevention of violence. Our status as a reliable source for rigorous research and our location in California’s capital city of Sacramento increase our ability to inform programs and policies for preventing violence and structuring safe and equitable communities. CVP has a strong commitment to expanding the cultural, social, and experiential diversity of the field of violence prevention. Fellows who can contribute to this goal are encouraged to apply and to identify their strengths and experiences in this area.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis through June 15, 2025 or until the position is filled.
Fellowships will be awarded on a competitive basis to individuals who have completed a doctoral degree program in public health, epidemiology, sociology, public policy, criminology, economics, (bio)statistics, community development, or a related field (Ph.D., Dr.PH., M.D., or equivalent). The Violence Prevention Research Program (VPRP) is a multi-disciplinary program of research and policy development at the University of California, Davis. We study the causes, consequences, and prevention of violence. Over thirty years ago, we helped develop the public health approach to firearm violence, and we apply that approach to everything we do.
