SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Emergency Department Registration Associate initiates the revenue cycle process for all services rendered in the emergency department setting while adhering to EMTALA regulations pertaining to registration. The incumbent is responsible for securing all information required to accurately create and complete the patient registration, eligibility verification, identification of health insurance requirements, and reviewing regulatory requirements for admissions, observations, and surgical day care visits.
Emergency Department Registration Associates are offered flexible schedules and growth opportunities within the department. ESSENTIAL DUTIES:The percentage of time spent performing essential functions is 95%. Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:
Create encounter in billing system and use visit to place patient on the Emergency Department tracking board. Select correct insurance plan for the patient, conduct full patient registration in-person with patients and or family members. This includes gathering the patient's demographic information, insurance carrier identification, Department of Health regulatory components, accurate guarantor information, and Medicare required information.
Conduct full patient pre-registration and registration for elective hospital-based services, both inpatient and outpatient.
Pre-registration is conducted via telephone and registration is conducted in-person with patients and/or family members. The registration processes include gathering the patient's demographic information, insurance carrier identification, Department of Health regulatory components, accurate guarantor information, and Medicare required information.
Complete all State and Federal regulatory requirements as determined by the type of visit and the patient's insurance.
Verify patient's eligibility with insurance plan utilizing multiple online systems and, as needed, placing telephone calls. This includes accurate coordination of benefits based upon hierarchy of insurance coverage, identification of Third Party Liability and appropriate notification to patients.
Investigate and obtain missing patient demographic and insurance information by making telephone calls to patients, primary care and referring physician offices, insurance agents, social services and any other appropriate source as needed.
Ensure regulatory compliance for self-pay patients based upon IRS 501r requirements.
Resolve billing edits upon completion of encounter creation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):
High School Diploma or equivalent.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):
Prior experience in medical health insurance knowledge, Medical terminology and Revenue Cycle experience preferred.
