A Brief Overview

The Audiologist is responsible for evaluating, treating, and counseling patients with auditory disorders in accordance with professional and MLH quality standards. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

What you will do
• Administers diagnostic tests to evaluate hearing and balance to establish a basis for patient treatment.
• Develops, implements, and measures effectiveness of individualized treatment programs for patients requiring aural rehabilitation.
• Acts as an auditory consultant to identify hearing-impaired patients in the hospital and community. Facilitates community awareness of hearing impairment and management.
• Promotes professional practice of all members of the departmental care team.
• Performs other job functions as assigned or requested.

Education/Formal Training Requirements
• Master's Degree Audiology
• Doctorate Audiology

Work Experience Requirements
• No prior work experience

Licenses and Certifications Requirements
• Audiologist Tennessee - Tennessee Board of Communications Disorders and Sciences
• Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology - American Speech-Language-Hearing Association

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Knowledge of audiology methods and techniques in two or more of the following areas: • Cochlear Implants including candidacy assessment and ongoing mapping services. • Hearing aid fitting and aural habitation. • Hearing assessment including otoacoustic emissions and evoked potentials. • Educational audiology including assessment and management of auditory/language/hearing disabled • Advanced differential diagnostic testing of otologic and neurologic patients. • Assessment of spatial orientation including ENG, posturography and behavioral assessment. • Intra-operative surgical monitoring.
• Ability to understand and prepare moderately complex written materials such as patient records.
• Ability to communicate verbally with associates, physicians and other outside professionals.
• Ability to work without close supervision and to exercise independent judgment.
• Ability to organize multiple tasks and maintain control of workflow.
• Must demonstrate basic skills in Microsoft Word and Excel, or equivalent software programs.
