Rank: Assistant Professor Tenure Information: Tenure Track
Department Summary:
The Department of Psychology at Bridgewater State University is pleased to announce a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in clinical psychology to start Fall 2026. Our department houses one of the largest undergraduate majors on campus, as well as an MPCAC-accredited Clinical Psychology MA program. We are particularly interested in hiring a Massachusetts-licensed (or license-eligible) psychologist with a specialty in the clinical treatment of children, adolescents, and families (e.g., through teaching, research, and/or clinical experience). Our ideal candidate is interested in contributing to the social justice mission and excellence of our department through their teaching, research, and service. We are seeking candidates who understand the barriers facing students belonging to marginalized groups and who have demonstrated experience with students from diverse backgrounds, equitable and inclusive teaching practices and social justice with respect to clinical practice, teaching, mentoring, research, life experiences, or service.
Bridgewater State University is a public four-year comprehensive university in southeastern Massachusetts serving over 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students via opportunities for close student/faculty interaction and a commitment to social justice. BSU faculty enjoy career stability, with robust union support, competitive salaries, excellent benefits including a pension option for retirement plan, and a clear path to tenure. Two-thirds of our students are first-generation college students, students of color, and/or Pell Grant recipients; BSU is committed to the achievement of academic excellence by students from diverse backgrounds. Professional development opportunities are abundant on our campus, including through the Office of Teaching and Learning, the Martin Richard Institute for Social Justice, and the Center for the Advancement of Research and Scholarship. BSU is primarily a teaching institution, with opportunity for research and professional activities. Internal funds are available for faculty scholarship and professional travel, and the psychology department has ample lab space. Faculty members at BSU earn course credits for supervising graduate fieldwork and undergraduate internships and involving graduate and undergraduate students in research.
Essential Duties:
This position involves teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, including service courses and other courses related to the candidate’s specialization/interests. Graduate-level courses in our Clinical Psychology master’s program could include Child/Adolescent Psychotherapy, Family Therapy, Play Therapy, and other courses in candidate’s area of specialization; graduate-level courses are scheduled in late afternoon to early evenings. Other responsibilities include mentoring clinical interns and/or students completing fieldwork (counted as part of teaching load), advising graduate and undergraduate students, engaging in scholarly activity, and providing service to the department and university. We particularly welcome applicants who express an interest in program leadership (e.g., graduate fieldwork coordinator, graduate program chair) in the future.
Required Qualifications:
Applicants must have earned their Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, or related field on or before August 31, 2026.
Applicants should have the ability to meet the responsibilities identified above and present evidence of excellent teaching, scholarship, and commitment to the shared values of the department and university. Applicants should have experience as the primary instructor for at least one psychology course. Applicants must be either currently licensed or license-eligible in Massachusetts (e.g., candidate must possess a license in MA or at least have the equivalent of one year of supervised postdoctoral training required for licensure in MA). We encourage you to review the Massachusetts licensure requirements at this website: https://www.mass.gov/psychologists-licensing.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to applicants who are strongly committed to the principles of social justice, equal access to education and opportunity, and inclusive teaching practices in public higher education. They should also have the potential for teaching excellence, the ability to work collaboratively, and a commitment to master’s level graduate coursework. The Psychology Department particularly seeks applications from individuals who are interested in contributing to the university’s teaching and social justice missions.
Special Conditions for Eligibility:
Please be aware that employment at Bridgewater State University is contingent upon completion of a successful background check. Bridgewater State University is an E-Verify employer.
Posting Number: F00589P Open Date: 10/15/2025 Close Date: 11/30/2025 Open Until Filled: No

- Letter of Interest
- CV
- Teaching statement (i.e., a description and examples of your approach to teaching and an explanation of the courses you prefer teaching and how you have integrated the department’s and University’s values into your teaching), followed by evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., formal teaching evaluations, if available)
- Statement of research or scholarship interests (including opportunities for incorporating students into your work and how you have and can promote principles and strategies that support BSU’s students in your research/scholarship and/or professional work)
