Assistant/Associate Professor in Integrated Health Across Lifecycle and Systems

Purdue University invites applications for multiple tenured or tenure-track faculty positions as part of a multi-department strategic faculty recruitment initiative in Integrated Health Across Lifecycle and Systems. This strategic recruitment will help advance Purdue's One Health initiative (https://www.purdue.edu/onehealth/) which seeks to tackle complex challenges with real-world impact at the intersection of human, animal, and plant health.

This cross-disciplinary faculty recruitment aims to transform research and impact in the areas of human, animal, and environmental health by bridging silos and fostering collaboration across disciplines. Addressing health not as isolated episodes of illness but as a continuum shaped by systems, environments, and behavior, this cluster will amplify Purdue's research strengths and catalyze meaningful public impact across Indiana and beyond.

Areas of Research Focus
We invite applications from scholars working in the following areas, as well as related or emerging fields that complement the cluster's interdisciplinary goals:

• Workplace and Environmental Health. Indiana's workforce—especially in agriculture, manufacturing, and healthcare—faces unique health risks related to environmental exposures, occupational safety, and disparities in preventative health. Environmental stressors often transcend species and systems, affecting ecosystems, humans, and animals alike. Faculty may leverage advanced tools such as imaging (e.g., MRI), biomonitoring, and wearable technology to examine how workplace conditions, environmental hazards, and health behaviors intersect, with an emphasis on both preventative and promotive strategies, improving organizational practices, community training, and policy translation. The goal is to reduce healthcare costs, increase productivity, and improve quality of life, particularly for rural and urban communities.
• Food as Medicine movement, which emphasizes foods for health and food intake by integrating food science, nutritional science, and public health with clinical care. Food components, dietary patterns, and processing innovations play a vital role in preventing chronic illness and supporting both physical and emotional well-being. This pillar will explore how to embed evidence-based dietary programs into health systems and communities, addressing challenges of production, formulation, distribution, and personalization (e.g., microbiome- or culturally informed diets). It will also highlight the role of food science in advancing sustainable agricultural practices, novel food technologies, and manufacturing approaches that improve accessibility while maintaining nutritional quality. Close collaboration across agriculture, dietetics, food science, clinical medicine, public health, and economics will be essential to create scalable and impactful solutions.
• Aging, Economics/Pharmacoeconomics, and Resource Optimization to address the urgent challenges of care delivery, medication management, and sustainable service models for older populations. With aging adults consuming a disproportionate share of healthcare resources, this area will apply system-level methods to optimize care pathways, evaluate resource allocation trade-offs, and design efficient, patient-centered service models. Topics include optimizing chronic disease management programs, improving coordination across providers and payers, reducing inefficiencies such as polypharmacy, and developing decision-support tools and using real-world data to inform policy and investment decisions. The goal is to enable smarter healthcare delivery, improve outcomes for older adults, and build scalable models of sustainable aging care.
• Healthcare IT, AI Applications in Healthcare, and Healthcare Marketing, which address the urgent challenges of accessibility, affordability, and quality in modern healthcare systems. This area will analyze how information technologies, financial models, and AI applications interact to shape healthcare delivery and outcomes. The goal is to inform smarter healthcare spending, improve operational efficiency, and enhance patient care through scalable, sustainable technology-driven innovations and technology-related policy changes. It also involves marketing research in consumer behavior, health communication, value creation, competitive strategy, and targeted interventions to ensure that healthcare innovations are not only developed but also effectively understood, trusted, and adopted by diverse populations.

Qualifications

• A Ph.D. in food science, nutrition, management information systems, information technology, operations management, management science, marketing, economics, psychology, sociology, or a related scientific or healthcare discipline by the start of the appointment
• A record of research excellence and productivity commensurate with rank
• Demonstrated potential or record of interdisciplinary collaboration and impactful scholarship
• Commitment to teaching and student mentorship

About the Department Following five years of growth, Purdue’s Public Health program was elevated to become the Department of Public Health, which is now expanding its enrollment, faculty and training options.
