Overview
Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. The Cardiac stepdown division (7200) supports the care continuum for post-surgical cardiac patients. The team provides specialized acute care in a fast-paced environment.¿ It is recognized as a Center of Excellence by the Joint Commission for left ventricular assist device implantation and management and care of the patient after heart transplantation surgery.¿ Nurses in this environment possess strong critical thinking skills and are able to make autonomous decisions.¿ Nurses also have the opportunity to be involved in the patient's progress from the immediate post-op period all the way through discharge.¿ The staff in this unit demonstrates a true passion for nursing and joy for their work.

Role Purpose
Provides direct patient care to support the licensed professional nurses responsible for a team of patients to ensure a safe environment for patients by reducing risk of harm. Collects vital information on the patient and reports such to the nursing team which contributes to the overall assessment of each patient and any changes to a patient's condition.
