This Advanced Practice Provider (APP) position is a key member of the Acute Care Surgery & Critical Care (ACS&CC) team, providing clinical support in the emergency department (ED) during peak hours for trauma and surgical patients. The APP will collaborate closely with attending surgeons, surgical residents, of the ACS & CC care team to deliver high-quality care to surgical patients.
Primary Responsibilities:
Represent the ACS&CC team in the Emergency Room as a provider
Provide back up for inpatient medical-surgical floor ACS APP provider
Perform ED consultations with comprehensive patient assessments, histories, and physical examinations for the ACS&CC service line
Perform procedures and wound care as required in the ED
Deliver care to patients of the ACS&CC division that are "boarded" in the ED
Respond to Level 3 traumas and provide trauma consultations.
Coordinate patient discharges and ensure follow-up care is arranged
Respond to Emergency Department ACS&CC consults and provide timely evaluations
Document all clinical encounters and procedures accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR)
Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members
Effectively partner with other members of the ACS & CC team (surgeons, APP, residents, medical students)
Weekday or Weekend Shifts
Conduct one quality improvement project annually
Support the mission of education, research and quality
Contribute to care team meetings
Qualifications:
Master's degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
Current NYS licensure and national certification (NCCPA or ANCC/AANP).
BLS and ACLS certifications required.
Willing to audit or ATLS certified
1-2 years of relevant experience in surgical or inpatient care preferred.
Strong clinical judgment, communication, and organizational skills.
