The academic affiliate for Gateway’s Psychiatry Residency and Child Fellowship is the Mercer University School of Medicine. 

The Associate Program Director has protected time for administrative responsibilities and the opportunity to teach medical students as well as Child Fellows and Psychiatry and Family Medicine Residents.

Background

Gateway CSB is the "safety net" provider of the full continuum of care in mental health, substance use, and intellectual and developmental disorders for Coastal Georgia. 

The programs include elementary through secondary school, school-based mental health ("APEX"), "STRIVE" - a first episode psychosis clinic, a Youth (SUD) Clubhouse, Youth to Adult Transition Team, as well as outpatient and inpatient child & adolescent psychiatry, "Trauma Drama" programs, and many, many other programs for children, youth and families.

The CSB is a key participant with Behavioral Health Unit (Savannah Police Department), the Juvenile Court, "The Front Porch" - a multi-agency resource center, the Matthew Reardon Center for Autism, the Regional Community Collaborative, the Safety Net Planning Council, the Coastal Georgia Indicators Coalition, and the "Prevent Suicide Today" program in Savannah.

Family oriented programs include supported housing, supported employment, SUD groups, SAIOP, MAT, and a Street Medicine program in partnership with the Family Medicine Residency.  The CSB provides community-focused and community-based training for highly-effective, patient-centered, recovery-oriented, evidence-based, trauma-informed patient care across the full continuum of community psychiatry.

The Residency and Child Fellowship are both community-based and community-focused with a residency complement of 32 residents and a fellowship complement of 4 fellows. 

Gateway has a post-doc program in psychology, PsyD/PhD's, and has partnered with Mercer to start a Master's program in Marriage and Family Therapy which will also provide supervision in family and couples therapy to Residents and Fellows. 

Faculty appointments are with Mercer University School of Medicine. Faculty have full access to the medical school library resources and Mercer administrative, technical and financial support for clinical research.

Compensation is competitive.  There are additional income opportunities.  Loan forgiveness is available.

In addition to the Associate Program Directors, additional energetic, pro-active psychiatrists are being sought for faculty positions to provide direct care and help train Residents, Fellows and Medical Students.

The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) ensures a rich art, music, and film environment. 

Year round activities include running, swimming, kayaking, boating, tennis, golf, and both freshwater and saltwater fishing.  Beach access in Savannah is at Tybee Island.  Within a 90' drive are St Simon's Island, Jekyll Island, and Hilton Head Island.  Atlanta, Charlotte, and Orlando, are all within four hours.
