The Department of Public Health in the Feinstein School of Social and Natural Sciences at Roger Williams University invites applications for a full-time position. It is expected that an appointment will be made at the level of associate or full professor. The position encompasses dual roles as professor of undergraduate public health and chair of the department. The administrative component of the position includes scheduling courses, evaluating faculty, managing the departmental budget, leading curriculum assessment, and guiding the development of the Public Health program. The faculty component of the position encompasses teaching Epidemiology and other required Public Health courses (e.g., Practicum, Public Health Essentials), as well as specialty courses in one's area of expertise, advising students, engaging in scholarship, and providing departmental, college, university, and professional service. Competitive candidates will possess training and experience that strengthens the program's Bachelor of Science degree offerings. We are seeking a colleague who will play a pivotal leadership role in our pursuit of CEPH accreditation status. Familiarity with the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) accreditation requirements, and experience with the accreditation process, is highly desired.
Candidates must possess educational qualifications and professional experience in public health, with either formal doctoral-level training (PhD, DrPH) in a public health discipline, or an MPH in combination with a terminal degree (e.g., PhD, MD, JD, DVM). Additionally, candidates must demonstrate a record of excellence in undergraduate teaching, and research or applied work in public health, commensurate with associate or full professor rank. Candidates should possess university administrative experience leading a department or program, and competitive candidates will be able to show their potential for successfully managing a growing academic program. A commitment to academic excellence and the ability to work effectively with faculty, students and colleagues is required.
The RWU Public Health Department is now entering its 6th year and has been expanding steadily in both number of students and course offerings. The Department's faculty are highly collaborative and productive, with expertise across multiple public health disciplines. Currently, the department serves approximately 70 students, and substantial growth is expected in the near term. RWU offers both Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts in Public Health, as well as a Minor, and Core Concentration in Public Health. Our BA program offers two tracks: Health Policy and Administration or Community and Health Equity. The curriculum is largely interdisciplinary, with many opportunities to work across traditional disciplinary lines to enhance the quality and breadth of our students' educational experiences.
