Provides professional care for patients with obstetric and gynecologic needs. Assists patients in labor and delivery, as well as post partum care. Ensures safety and health of mother and child and identifies need for additional care. Works in conjunction with a practicing physician. Requires a bachelor's degree. Must be a Registered Nurse, and certified as a Nurse Midwife. 

Registered Nurse and successful completion of a certified post-graduate program for nurse-midwives.

Certified for practice by national examination and state license.
