We are hiring midwives into 2 different midwifery practices at Reading Hospital. Reading Hospital is a very midwife-friendly, teaching hospital with an OB residency program, with about 3200 births /year. It is a medium sized teaching hospital with multiple residency and fellowship programs, many of which we interact with regularly as adjunct faculty. Midwives are eligible for clinical faculty positions with Drexel University.
The hospital-based midwifery service is primarily responsible for OB Triage and L&D coverage. As the provider in our busy Obstetrical Triage unit (evaluating 550-700 + women/month) midwives’ function at the top of our licensure along with a dedicated team of RN’s and a medical assistant.
Working as laborists and faculty in the OB/Gyn residency program, we function as part of the team on the labor floor providing care for the diverse population of women in our community. Prior to COVID we had a robust Centering Pregnancy program which we are planning to re-start.
Our team of midwives is well respected and enjoys being able to work with collaborating physicians who appreciate the unique skills we bring to patient care in this setting.
Reading OB GYN in Exeter, PA, is a midwifery practice that attends about 30 births/month, and cares for both high and low risk patients in a collaborative model with an OBGYN. We interact with the residents but aren't routinely involved in their teaching, and they aren't routinely in our births. We have a collaborative-midwifery led vaginal breech program. We have one primary collaborating OB, that deeply values and understands midwifery, is an excellent surgeon, great with forceps and breeches, and has great clinical judgment. He has been the medical director of our local birth center for many years. We enjoy collaborating with local home birth midwives. Spanish language skills are a plus. Our midwives’ biggest job satisfiers are the continuity of caring for our own patients, not being micromanaged ever, giving midwife love to high-risk folks, being able to be patient with labor, being able to offer TOLA2C and vaginal breech to folks that desire it, and a very sweet and appreciative patient population.
Please email with any questions and send your resume/cover letter .
We will be considering new grads, historically we have hired new grads and it turned out very well and orientation is very supportive.
